Waterland

Waterland is a municipality in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is located in the Waterland region, from which it takes its name. The municipality has 17,529 inhabitants and covers an area of 115.6 square kilometers, of which 53.6 km² is water. Waterland was established in 1991 through the merger of the former municipalities of Broek in Waterland, Ilpendam, Katwoude, Marken, Monnickendam, and the eastern part of Landsmeer (east of the North Holland Canal, including the village of Watergang). Waterland was part of the Plusregio Amsterdam Metropolitan Area and, as of 2022, is part of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region.
